Rules….For You and Not For Me?
March 8, 2016

Historically, the law has two copies.  One copy is for those who are the least embraced by a community, town, state or within a country.  The other copy is for those who are seated in power, wealth, politically connected or feared by others.  This argument can easily be traced by at least 2000 years.  In the Roman Empire history records a man named Felix.  Felix was born somewhere between 5 and 10 A.D. According Tacitus he was appointed the position of procurator though the influence of his brother Pallas.  Felix was cruel and ruled by taking bribes and utilizing threats and fear according to Josephus in Antiquity of The Jews.  Felix’s style of rule lead to more crime because individuals of status knew that with the proper bribes their crimes would potentially be overlooked.  The politics governing Rome of 2000 years past in many ways became the blueprint of our current form of government that we call a democracy.  Democracy  has the declarations that were the stated, accepted, and written will of the people.   Prominent individuals such as Felix understood the written declarations for a price could be ignored, modified, enforced inconsistently toward those who were willing to pay monetarily or with a type of “this for that” favor. The entire duration of Felix’s rule was constantly filled with unrest and ongoing conflict within his ranks.

An excellent illustration of the above story regarding Felix is found in the book of Acts 24:24-27. And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.  And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when i have a convenient season, i will call for thee.   He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him:  wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.  But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room:  and Felix, willing to show the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

The facts of Acts 24:24-27 are:  Felix and his wife Drusilla after hearing Paul, knew that he was a man of integrity, worthy of respect, knowledgeable, respected government and loved God.  Felix and his wife Drusilla were intimidated by the astuteness of Paul because of their personal desires for adoration and control.  Felix and his wife Drusilla attempted to set a political and religious trap to discredit Paul;  if he had offered a bribe it would be an admission to him having a flawed character.  Felix and his wife Drusilla were willing to bring public shame upon the must upright man of their day because the refused to be broken by compromising his values.

For individuals who do not necessarily ascribe to the Bible as factual, there can be no denying of the external documentation of how Felix and others within the Roman Empire governed.  Equally, there can be no denying that our form of government is a derivative of the Roman form of government complete with the Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches.

Philippians 3:16 might serve as a 21st Century reminder that our United States Constitution is the rule book for every citizen of America and it should not be up for bribes, ignoring, or retribution toward those that one disagrees.  Nevertheless, wereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. kjv

Health Care And Faith
October 1, 2013

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.  3 John vs. 2….Does everyone really believe what God’s Spiritual Servant Believed?

Healing appears to be a basic tenet in both the Old and New Testament.  Healing of the Spirit, Soul and Body requires proper attention by individuals who are empowered with the gift or talent to make healing possible.  Jeremiah the prophet asked, “is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there?  Why then is the health of the daughter of my people not healed?  Jeremiah 8:22  Balm was the salve extracted from the inside of a tree or root grown in Gilead and was known throughout the region for it’s healing powers.  The reader also find in the same verse an inquiry about a physician.  Physician in the Old Testament and in 2013 references someone who has the ability to heal.  Throughout many area’s of the world people are familiar with the word “rafha” which means in various forms; to heal, the healer, to make healthy.  The uniqueness of the word lies in the diversity of applications.  People require healing in their spirit, physical body, as well as their soul which is the seat of thoughts, emotions, feelings and life experiences.

Not always is it possible for all services to be provided by one person.  It is common for an individual to be equipped to assist others with spiritual struggles but not with mental health matters such as Bipolar Disorder, Paranoia, PTSD, etc.  It is equally as common for a person who is capable of helping people with mental health matters not to be equipped in areas of physical aliments such as heart trouble, strokes, skin diseases, hearing impairments, vision impairments and such like.  This writer would point out that only Jesus was able to heal specific diseases that people struggled with and often had spent all their earnings, savings and any other resources seeking healing.  Jesus in a span of three years modeled compassion upon those who were sick by providing them with Universal Health Care.  For three years Jesus invited everyone to come to him for healing and he promised them that he would not send them away because of an inability to afford treatment.  The Spirit of God anointed Jesus to cry out good news to the indigent “rafha” or healing of their hearts which continually were being broken by life’s disappointments, those who sought vision from blindness, and those who had been trampled upon and were on the brink of giving up hope.  Luke 4:18

Now this is the tragedy of the story.  Government has always run concurrent with Old and New Testament Religion.  Wherever Israel dwelled whether in their on land or in captivity or in the wilderness, God expected his people to always be treated with dignity.  God’s wrath would be unleashed upon Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Edom, or anyone else who failed to provide proper provisions for sustaining a dignity of life to his people.  Even when Israel was in the Wilderness, God himself provided clothing and shoes that never wore out, meat and bread each day, clouds to shield them from the desert heat and pillar of fire at night to protect them from the cold night winds.  Doing the infant stage of the New Testament Church, the Roman Government was in control of most of the eastern world including Jerusalem the seat of Christianity.  God always required of his people a respect for the Government and a respect of Government toward his saints.  Government was sanctioned by God and were to operate as “servants” of God toward his people.  The people were not to be afraid of Government and Government was assigned the task of insuring that it’s citizens who were also citizens of God’s Heavenly Kingdom were taken care of regarding safety, health, and a non hostile environment to worship and serve their God who dwells in Heaven.  Romans 13:1 – 14

Before Jesus left this earth, he issued a very stern warning to those who were assigned the task of making sure that citizens of God’s Kingdom in this earth.  The warning was very short but very clear, “be careful how you treat these little ones, because their angels are always before the throne of God”.   Jesus was charging Government Officials, Religious Leaders, and anyone who handle his people to treat them with Justice.

Justice means that which is right.  Justice means that which is normal.  That which is clearly without controversy.  Affordable Health Care is not a debate it’s simply right.  Affordable Health Care in the eyes of God has always been normal for people to receive and those refusing to adhere to God’s normal have always been held accountable.   Affordable Health Care is nothing to debate unless there is a spirit of disobedience in the hearts of those who God has allowed to serve for a season in Government Offices.  Remember, we must all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ and give an account of whether we have made sure God’s people received the care that Heaven is pleased.
